ARC:Babe in Boyland by Jody Gehrman

Title:Babe in Boyland
Author:Jody Gehrman
Pages:304
Publisher:Dial (February 17, 2011)
Source:Around the World tours
Reading Level:Young Adult
Rating:Four Hearts

Summary:
Natalie, a seventeen-year-old former drama club member who now writes a relationship column for her school newspaper, decides to go undercover as a student at an all-boys boarding school so that she can figure out what guys are really like.

Review:
Have you ever seen She's the Man? No?!?! What are you waiting for! Go watch it!

Babe in Boyland (Love the title by the way)was like She's the Man in a book version. While there re different reasons the girl goes undercover, they both start to have feelings for their roommate. Well they can't help if their roommate happens to be super hot.

Natalie writes for her school newspaper giving relationship advice. Everything is all and well, until her advice backfires. Natalie has an epiphany, literally, and realizes that she only has one side of the story. She has absolutely no idea how guys see relationships and that bugs the crap out of her. So at her bestfriends party she tries to ask a few guys what they think, but they're either scared of her, or trying to feel her up.

Natalie is fed up. With a lot of help from her friends, Natalie aka Nat goes undercover at an all boys school for a week to get some answers. What she never expected was hr roommate to be so hot, or to get so attached to these guys. Though falling for her roommate, of course he has another girl, and is trying to hook her up with another girl!

Babe In Boyland was a magnificent book. I love every minute reading it. Natalie was dedicated to her column and you can't blame a girl for trying to get answers. Though Natalie might have swallowed more than she could chew, it was definitely fun watching her go through it all. Of course in the end, everything turned out for the best.

Natalie acting as Nat was priceless. Absolutely funny. For us girls, how would you act if you put yourself in this situation? While we would all go about it a different way, Natalie was definitely unique for she went all the way.

While I doubt there will be a second book, a girl can dream! You'll want to snatch this book up as soon as it hits the shelves!

ARC:Nightshade by Andrea Cremer

Title:Nightshade
Author:Andrea Cremer
Pages:528
Publisher:Philomel (October 19, 2010)
Source:ARC won
Reading Level:Young Adult
Rating:3 Paws

Summary:
Werewolves Ren and Calla—the young alpha male and female of two carefully controlled packs—are constantly sparring yet clearly attracted to each other. The plans for their impending union, designed to create a new pack, are upset by the arrival of Shay, a human man, and Calla risks her own safety and the future of her new pack by falling both in love and lust with him. Cremer’s thriller is less overtly romantic than Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series and has minimal character development, but that’s not what will keep readers turning the many pages of this quick read. Though some of the myriad twists and turns are predictable, there’s enough action to engage any reluctant reader. The unresolved ending promises a sequel, and Cremer’s multitiered society of nonhuman creatures with intriguing powers has plenty of room to explore. Her descriptions of werewolves in their wolf state are strongly rooted in their love of nature and the joy of physical strength and freedom, and will no doubt have teens debating the relative merits of werewolves versus vampires.

Review:
Recently I have discovered I want the bad guys too win. Well, I wouldn't call them the bad guys but the guys that wants the girl when the girl usually wants the sweeter boy. No! I want them to be with the "bad guy" I suppose its just me.

Andrea Cremer makes a new view of werewolves. How the wolves transform is different but I wouldn't exactly say unique. However, if I was a werewolf this is definitely how I would like to change my skin.

I love how Calla was an alpha. I adore the fact that the female is in the lead as well as a male, though they are in different packs. Though Calla started out acting like the alpha she is, in the middle, she began to let other overrule her. She started out strong and I wanted her to stay that way. While Calla frustrated me throughout the book, I cant say I didnt enjoy her.

Shay was just a boy, until he moved away from all he knew. He was out for a walk, and was almost killed, until the wolf saved his life. This wolf happened to be Calla. While I didnt find Shay as macho and sexy as others might have, I suppose I can say I was jealous of him. Shay knew nothing about werewolves until he was saved by one, not just a werewolf, but a alpha.

While there were side romances that I enjoyed, I personally did not enjoy the main romance. If you are like me you can understand how frustrating reading can be. You just want to read the parts where its the two you want to get together, not the two where they actually both want each other! Aside from the obvious, the book was definitely worth reading.

Because I had an ARC I was lucky enough to read it early and I know how excited you all were for the book to come out. I am pleased to say that Nightshade is out on the shelves and you should pick up a copy without a doubt! Cremer had many interesting werewolves facts and legends. The perfect book for any season!

Howl At The Moon

This is my entry for the Haunted Halloween create a story.

I just made this up right now so bare with me :)

____________________________________________________

The sharp ululation had my head snap back. Shivers shot up my spine, the harsh wind causing my cheeks to sting. They were coming for me. I tried to cover my scent with the dirt and foliage around me, but it didnt work. They had super noses, and hearing.
I tripped over a root and landed on my knees and hands. I muffled a cry. I quickly got up, ignoring the globs of blood appearing on my knees. I could almost here them approaching me. My blood ran cold, my limbs grew stiff even as I stumbled my way through the forest. My breath thickened, blood tricked down my legs.
I leaned against one of the nearby trees, trying to catch my breath. I took slow, open mouth breaths, trying to be as quite as possible. I could feel my hearth pound, pushing blood through my veins, it was going to explode. I could feel them hunting me, sniffing out my blood, following the sound of my beating heart. Sweat grew on my forehead, threatening to drip down my face.
I squeezed my eyes shut, seeing the flash back of them. Their teeth, sharp, lethal, slobber foaming at their mouths. Their muzzles dirty from their kill, my sister. Her screams echoed through my mind. The sound of their growls and the ripping of her flesh, them smell of her warm metallic blood as it splattered across the forest floor. I bit the inside of my cheek, holding in the whimper. Tears gathered in my eyes, but I fought them back, I didnt want to give them another scent for them to follow.
Their howls grew near, their breathing louder. I pushed off the trees, I tip toed across the forest floor, and kept quite. I absently whipped at my knees, trying to keep the blood from dripping. Ahead of me I saw the grass thicken, lengthen. I quickened my pace and headed into the brush.
I pushed into the grass, making sure the I fluffed the grass back so they couldnt follow me. I kept going until my back hit something. I grunted and turned to see what was behind me. It was a stump, a single stump. I sat on the stump and cried. I didnt care if they found me, they already killed my sister.
The tears in my eyes, stung. I whipped at my eyes furiously. This wasnt the way I wanted to die, but if I did, I wasnt going down without a fight. I could hear them approaching, feel the grass sway as they intruded. I prayed in my head, something ive never done before.
The sound of the grass reached my ears. I opened my eyes and saw them. They were inches in front of me, surrounding me. Everything stilled. I squeezed my eyes, my lower lip trembling in fear.
A hard body crashed into mine. I looked up into the eyes of the murderer. His red eyes glowing, his body heavy and furry, a drop of his slobber dripped onto my chest. I quivered beneath him. His body lowered into mine, pressing me into the earth.
I couldnt keep my eyes off of his. The pack drew closer, growling in their throat. I followed his eyes as his muzzle lowered. His fangs brushing my next, his hot breath against my throat. He slowly applied pressure, his fangs digging into my sensitive flesh.
“Im sorry-.” I gasped.

ARC:Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title:Crescendo
Author:Becca Fitzpatrick
Pages:432
Publisher:Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing (October 19, 2010)
Source:Around The World Tours
Reading Level:Young Adult
Rating:3 Paws

Summary:
Nora should have know her life was far from perfect. Despite starting a relationship with her guardian angel, Patch (who, title aside, can be described anything but angelic), and surviving an attempt on her life, things are not looking up. Patch is starting to pull away and Nora can't figure out if it's for her best interest or if his interest has shifted to her arch-enemy Marcie Millar. Not to mention that Nora is haunted by images of her father and she becomes obsessed with finding out what really happened to him that night he left for Portland and never came home.

The farther Nora delves into the mystery of her father's death, the more she comes to question if her Nephilim blood line has something to do with it as well as why she seems to be in danger more than the average girl. Since Patch isn't answering her questions and seems to be standing in her way, she has to start finding the answers on her own. Relying too heavily on the fact that she has a guardian angel puts Nora at risk again and again. But can she really count on Patch or is he hiding secrets darker than she can even imagine?

Review:
If you thought Hush Hush was amazing, Crescendo will blow your mind!

I was always a fan of Hush Hush but Crescendo was like none other. It was like id never expected it to be, it was much much more. Fitzpatrick really knows how to push a girls buttons, she really does. I was yelling and screaming at the book and loved every second of it.

The young couple of Patch and Nora go through some shaky times. Nora finds a little clue about her father and of course she jumps on it! Im afraid once more, I can not say much or I will give it away. All I can say was it was simply unbelievable.

Crescendo definitely remarkable. It is a book that will always have a special place on my shelf and will come back to time and time again. I was lucky enough to meet Becca, she is an absolute doll! I simply adored her! She mentioned she wrote Crescendo and her had to re-write it because her editor hated it. While I have no idea how the original went, her re-written Crescendo was fantastic!

Crescendo will keep you on the edge of your seat, yelling and flipping the pages. Crescendo had a hurting ending (on my part) and I must say that I am dying for the next book in this fabulous series.

Review:
I am pleased to say Pearce re-told the originally story of Little Red Riding Hood wonderfully.

While the story may not seem to have anything related to the original story, the little things is what count. I actually really like the re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood. The characters and they plot was incredibly enjoyable and unique. The fact that there were actually sisters was a nice twist in the story.

Sisters Red started out wonderfully, with what started it all. The very beginning is what starts the re-telling of Little Red Riding Hood. The wolves in this tale are different and not like the usual werewolves which can always be interesting.

While Im afraid I dont't want to say much or else i'd give anything away. Im sure all of you have heard just how amazing Sisters Red is and all I want to say is that you should pick up a copy as soon as you can! Or the ebook for those of you who have ereaders.

Jackson Pearce is an amazing person. She is so sweet, and oh so very funny. Her book definitely shows some of her personality in her book. I look forward to the Sister Red companion book Sweetly which you can find out more about on her website.

ARC:Halloween Fantasies by Katie Salidas

Title:Halloween Fantasies
Author:Katie Salidas
Pages:68
Publisher:Rising Sign Books, LLC. (September 14, 2010)
Source:Received for review
Reading Level:Romance
Rating:3 Paws

Summary:
Touted as the sexiest party of the year, the annual Halloween Fantasy Ball is the one place a girl can let loose and succumb to her wildest fantasies.

Disguised as a sexy vampire huntress, Sasha captures the attention of Dante, a real life creature of the night. For Sasha, meeting bona-fide vampire is enough to fulfill one of her life long fantasies. She’s ready to go home a happy woman.

But Dante has other plans. It is after all, a night of fantasies, and he has a few of his own to share

Review:
Salidas has done it again!

Salidas never seems to disappoint me. She comes up with an amazing idea and she comes through without a doubt. Salidas has a way with vampires, a very enjoyable way. Though this was a short story, it was definitely more like the beginning of a very wonderful, delicious story.

Halloween Fantasies started out with two best friends getting read to go to one of the biggest parties of the year. When Sasha's outfit gets ruined, her best friend puts her in a much sexier outfit. A vampire huntress. Dante happens to be a real vampire, looking for pray.

Sasha and Dante bump into each other on the dance floor. Attraction is definitely undeniable. This was a priceless moment for Dante, he was looking for pray, but according to Sasha's outfit, he was the pray. He had to have her. And he did.

With Sasha's friend occupied, Sasha scumbags to her fantasy. A night full of fantasies with a sexy vampire. What more could a girl want? NOTHING!

If you're familiar with Salidas's work, then you know how amazing her vampire writing skills are. Salidas added some extra spice to her work and it was oh so very sweet. Or should I say spicy?

Salidas has always been one of my favorite authors, and she continues to show me why she is. With Halloween around the corner, Halloween Fantasies is a wonder full treat for a nice full moon close to Halloween perhaps. Or a stormy night. Or any other night!

ARC:Grace by Elizabeth Scott

Title:Grace
Author:Elizabeth Scott
Pages:208
Publisher:Dutton Juvenile; (September 16, 2010)
Source:Start Book Tours
Reading Level:Young Adult
Rating:One Heart

Summary:
Grace was raised to be an Angel, a herald of death by suicide bomb. But she refuses to die for the cause, and now Grace is on the run, daring to dream of freedom. In search of a border she may never reach, she travels among malevolent soldiers on a decrepit train crawling through the desert. Accompanied by the mysterious Kerr, Grace struggles to be invisible, but the fear of discovery looms large as she recalls the history and events that delivered her uncertain fate.

Review:
I couldnt get into it.

Grace sounded fabulous when I read the synopsis but when actually reading it I couldnt seem to get into it. The beginning started wonderfully, full of potential, but in the middle it lost me. While I really tried to get into it and picture what Grace was really going through, I was highly unsuccessful.

While the whole idea was brilliant, I hate to say the writing itself was not for me. I have read many reviews on this book and they were all very high. Everyone has different opinions on books. This was my opinion.

However, there were certain sections of the book that were enjoyable, there were barely any. Im afraid to say that Grace will not be a book I will pick up again when I have any spare time.

ARC:Magick Charm by Jennifer Wells

Title:Magick Charm
Author:Jennifer Wells
Pages:288
Publisher:Crescent Moon Press (September 2010)
Source:Received for review from publisher
Reading Level:Romance
Rating:3 Paws

Summary:
Janie Adler likes her quiet, orderly life reviewing books for a small New Orleans newspaper exactly the way it is. So what if Duke Hot Pants, the hero of her favorite romance novel, is the only man in her life? She has a Pulitzer Prize to chase. That is until her quirky twin sister Rachel moves in, bringing boyfriend drama, a smelly ferret, and irrational belief in all things magickal along with her.

Persuaded by a local voodoo priestess-and maybe one margarita too many-the twins cast spells to improve their love lives. Loser-magnet Rachel focuses on avoiding the wrong men and Janie seeks her romance novel ideal. While plenty of eligible bachelors flood into their lives, Janie only has eyes for her coworker who lives in the apartment downstairs and works in the cube next to her. But the twins soon discover the incantations' many unintended-and dangerous-consequences. The increasing number of mishaps and misfortune putting the sisters in grave peril seems more like the work of a curse. Can Janie and Rachel's "twintuition" save them from the menace stalking them?

Review:
Nothing can break up these twins!

Janie and Rachel are identical twins. That can always be fun! Though they may be similar in certain ways, but when it comes to relationships they couldnt be more different. Janie is more of a romance women, hence the pile of romance books by her bed! Rachel has bad taste in men, hence the situation she's in. Its okay with Janie because she never liked the guy so she is quick to help her sister out of the relationship she was in.

But her boyfriend has other plans. With Janie's neighbors help, Ryan, everything turns out to be fine. Or so they thought. Rachel convinces Janie to do a spell with her. A spell that will solve their relationship problems. Janie hesitates at first, but she really wants her very own hero so she eventually agrees.

What Janie doesnt expect is a man to come into her life. One who wanted out of her life many years ago. Only he wants back in, no strings attached please! Janie however want strings attached, just not with him. Not anymore. Her parents are certainly happy about her decision.

Just when Janie thinks she's got her romance book relationship, someone is stalking them. Her and her sister. She thinks. With help of some newly gained friends Janie and Rachel want to get this crazy guy behind bars. Forever.

Wells had me laughing with the twins relationship and gasping with the mystery of the stalker. The ending was unexpected and very creepy, in a good way of course. I love a book that keeps me guessing till the end and this one was one of them. Magick Charm was very enjoyable and memorable. I myself is a romantic at heart and the last chapter had me wanting my own hero.

I look forward to more of Wells work. Magick Charm definitely has a place on my shelf where it will stay and be re-read!
